A deep commitment to Escondido and the prosperity of our community marks Escondido Councilmember John Masson’s life.
Appointed to the City Council in 2012 and elected in November of 2014, John is currently the Deputy Mayor and serves on the Economic Development Subcommittee of the City Council, is a SANDAG Alternate and serves as Escondido’s representative on the League of California Cities on two policy committees: Housing and Community Economic Development and Environmental Quality.
John’s family moved to Escondido when he was a young boy. He attended Conway Elementary School, Grant Middle School (now Mission Middle School) and graduated from Escondido High School in 1982.
John is proud to be a jobs-provider in Escondido. He is the President of Masson & Associates, a family-owned civil engineering and land surveying business that was started in 1978 by John’s father, Douglas Masson. The firm provides innovative and cost-effective engineering design solutions for both public and private clients. Types of projects include: single-family subdivisions and master-planned communities, multi-family residential properties, affordable housing, commercial/industrial parks, medical office buildings, K-12 and Higher Educational facilities and Hospitality and Gaming.
John is active in a wide range of community groups. He is a Board Member on the Palomar College Foundation, a former Board Member of the Palomar Family YMCA for over 15 years and an active member and former president of the Escondido Sunrise Rotary Club, John also served as Chairman of the Escondido Chamber of Commerce and served on the organization’s Economic Development Committee and Government Affairs Committee. His commitment to jobs in Escondido led him to serve on the Mayor’s Economic Advisory Board and the city’s General Plan Update Committee.
A graduate of Palomar College and California State University, Chico, John and his wife Tricia have two wonderful children, Nick and Taryn. His hobbies include: martial arts, four wheeling, motocross, mountain biking and surfing. John enjoys spending quality time with family and friends and giving back to his community.
